Our Douglas Fir Heavy Duty Tongue and Groove External Cladding / Dungboards is heavy duty tongue and groove cladding in Douglas fir, for external use on buildings such as barns, sheds and livestock housing.

About Douglas fir

Douglas fir with colour varying from pinks and browns to creams. Dark brown knots can loosen as the wood dries, and resin patches may ooze a little at first and in later hot summers.

Left untreated it weathers to silver grey.

A strong, hard-wearing British softwood.

Profile and fitting

These dungboards / stock walling boards are machined with a tongue and groove so they interlock for a stronger wall, and still allow some movement with heat and moisture. Nominal size 200 × 50 mm, machined to 194 × 44 mm. Visible face 179 mm; tongue 15 × 12 mm; lips 16 / 16 mm; V groove 4 × 3 mm on both faces.

They can be fitted horizontally or vertically; fit horizontal boards tongue uppermost so moisture runs off.

Good to know

  • Use stainless steel or specialist coated fixings: iron fixings can react with Douglas fir and cause black staining.
  • Natural timber varies: expect some differences in colour and grain from board to board and from the photos.
  • Boards left exposed to changing weather before fitting are likely to cup, warp and split. We suggest fitting between October and April where possible, within 7 to 14 days of delivery.
